I appreciate that both numbers will because of mild cases be significantly under reported, but do you have a reason to believe Italy under reported more than China?

Continuing the discussion on how long SARS-COV-2 can survive and be active on surfaces:

9 days is the longest any Corona virus has been found to be active on a surface. This was not SARS-CoV-2 virus.

    https://www.journalofhospitalinfecti...046-3/fulltext

3-4 days is the longest any study on the current virus has found it to be able to be active and capable of infecting.

    https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2004973

SARS-CoV-2 was more stable on plastic and stainless steel than on copper and cardboard, and viable virus was detected up to 72 hours after application to these surfaces
The longest viability of both viruses was on stainless steel and plastic; the estimated median half-life of SARS-CoV-2 was approximately 5.6 hours on stainless steel and 6.8 hours on plastic

Viral RNA detected on surfaces after this is not suggestive of a complete virus capable of infecting a human, it is suggestive of traces of RNA.

Saying you could be infected with SARS-COV-2 from licking something on the cruise ship after 17 days is akin to saying that 17 days after your dog died a swab on his bed finds DNA, and then claiming that immediately getting the lead out and calling out 'Walkies!' is a sensible action.

University researchers using live virus in vaccine research are comfortable using 4 days as able-to-be-active time, the general public sounding alarms about it 'surviving' for 17 days sounds very much like fake news.

True, and a good reason for being careful of supermarket items wrapped in plastic. I am immediately discarding any plastic wrap when the shopping is delivered, or I have been out, before a long hand wash.

Yes, I've just been spritzing with alcohol and washing packages that are able to be washed, and washing hands after preparing foods/containers, basically assuming any of them could potentially be viable.

This news shouldn’t matter much to us.....

However, heartbreakingly hundreds of homeless individuals rely on this fast food restaurant for a safe shelter each and every night in Hong Kong!

Recently counted, 250 homeless individuals sleep in McD’s in the district of West Kowloon alone!!

This is terrifying! And also infuriating that this government has people in such serious need left with no safe options for shelter.

This government does have shelters with hundreds and hundreds of beds which are also closed tonight.

The beds are put away and the doors are locked. And this isn’t because of the virus! This is because it’s not cold enough or hot enough for the government to care.

This is a really sad and challenging time for so many. We are all facing big challenges I’m sure. But it especially breaks me thinking about those homeless seniors and individuals with serious mental illness who won’t know where to go tonight

    Take care everyone ❤️

There is a term for them: "McRefugees". Studies showed that a lot of them aren't actually homeless street sleepers, but their home is simply too cramped, lack air conditioning, is too far from place of work, etc. MCDonalds offer a relatively more comfortable alternative. Shows the dreadful quality of housing for the working class if many of them prefer to sleep at McDonalds than their own homes. There has been a six-fold increase in these Mcrefugees in recent years:

A couple of news items from here

A last-minute amendment to President Rodrigo Duterte’s special powers bill to contain the novel coronavirus was an expansion of the section on penalties, which now specifically punishes the spreading of fake and alarming information by up 2 months in prison and up to P1 million in fines.

There has been a surge of fake news reports often using Government department headings so they look official. I even fell for one. Clearly a coordinated campaign rather than a bunch of conspiracy theorists making the usual crap up. The primary suspect is the communist party and allied fronts who rejected a ceasefire request and instead killed two indigenous leaders.

We are uncertain as to when the health emergency caused by COVID-19 will abate. As such, we do not want to add on to the current situation with another possible crisis caused by unplanned pregnancies, as they could bear added weight to our already strained medical institutions,” POPCOM chief Undersecretary Juan Antonio Perez III said in a statement.
