Does anyone have any more info on the Ireland charter city idea that some HK businessmen are floating?

More in this interview - no clue how real or feasible this idea is ...

Our goal is to develop multiple ICCs in multiple countries. The population of each ICC will be 50 percent Hong Kongers and 50 percent host residents. Hong Kong has already accomplished two economic miracles. First, it transformed from a fishing village into a manufacturing center. Over the last 30 years, it became one of the world’s financial capitals. It’s time for a third miracle: helping the people of Hong Kong build a new city, where they can live in freedom and democracy and thrive economically.
Mark Lutter is the founder and executive director of the Charter Cities Institute. He is advising the Victoria Harbor Group in his personal capacity and has a financial interest in their success. Ivan Ko is CEO and co-founder of Victoria Harbor Group, a company building new cities for Hong Kongers emphasizing democracy and freedom.

    More on Ivan Ko:

Ivan Ko has taken on the role of CEO for Victoria Harbor Group, an international charter city investment company which he co-founded in Hong Kong with Dr Simon Shen. Ko began the new role in May while continuing his 16-year run as chairman of Hong Kong-based RECAS Group, a real estate fund manager that specializes in large-scale development. A graduate of the University of Hong Kong, Ko was the Founding Chairman and Chairman of the Hong Kong and international chapter of the China Real Estate Chamber of Commerce from 2012 to 2018.

And Simon Shen + some of the articles he's written for HKFP

Dr Simon Shen is the founding chairman of Glocal Learning Offices (GLOs), an international relations start-up company. He also serves as an adjunct associate professor at the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Will the world's leading amount of crony capitalism and extreme income inequality be part of the charter, or will that come later?

Everybody can develop in a financial center with low taxes and no social services to speak of. The whole scheme wrongly assumes that Hong Kongers are uniquely better in economic development than their host countries.

At the end of the day, it is a large scale real estate development project. Wonder if they can slide this into an EB-5 type scheme..

    Interesting, but highly improbably.

Whilst most governments would want you to integrate within their society, these guys want to build a new ghetto and hope 50% of locals will live here. They want their own charter and be governed by Irish Law and the legal system.

Which countries would be willing to go on a JV whereby they just provide the land or sell the land at auction to some overseas developer?

What is the Republic of Ireland's view on Hong Kong?

The Republic of Ireland left the UK in 1922.

Whatever BJ offers will not apply to the Republic of Ireland.

Apart from the Immigrant Investor Program, what other avenues will be open in the Republic of Ireland?
