Didn't they have a few WhatsApp lines back during the protests? Rumor was that whatsapp kept blocking them because using them for police reporting was breaking T&C...

What's up with all the "protesters" who were acquitted because the magistrate found the police to be providing unreliable testimony?

It's pretty ridiculous that those who have responsibility for upholding the law are deemed to be uncredible or unreliable.

Is this a Tit for Tat action against a person that entered illegally into HK from China? Will they hold the lady for months without access to lawyers or contact to the outside world including family or will they follow due process and quietly return her to China to face justice for not declaring income in Hong Kong?

“In fact, the Department sometimes faces similar situations when dealing with unauthorised building works. If the Department were to single out the Shatin and Repulse Bay properties owned by the Secretary for Justice for criminal investigation, that would be a deviation from general principles and cause unfairness,” the spokesperson added.
Probably deserves its own thread, but parking here for now.

Let’s look at the RTHK persecution versus what happened with Teresa Cheng.
For all that talk of deterrent effect (with the protests), you have somebody who should know better not only avoiding prosecution, but keeping her job.
Meanwhile, judges have been reminded youth is not a factor in considering the alleged crime or sentencing...

Everyone before the law, really? Where’s the independent inquiry, there isn’t even an ethics review of those otherwise unaccountable...

Legco seems more and more to be a rubber stamp where only pro-establishment "lawmakers" will be allowed. Seems like no opposition of any kind will be permitted. Beijing is now mulling removal of 4 pro-democrat legislators over their filibustering over quorum calls (which is actually permitted under existing Legco rules). Kind of absurd if you think about it, to remove legislators over quorum calls. The pro-democrats have announced they will resign en masse if any of them are removed, thus turning Legco into a rubber stamp:

    https://hongkongfp.com/2020/11/09/ho...filibustering/

This may be what the pro-establishment want, but they should consider the long-term consequences of the de-legitimization of Legco where only pro-government voices are allowed.

Now some pro-establishment has long complained about the stalling tactics of the pro-democrats. That does indeed slow and grind down the legislative process by the government and create delays and problems. But ultimately, who is really to blame for that? The pro-establishment have enough members in Legco to overwhelm any stalling tactics by the pro-democrats, if they so choose. Why haven't they done so? Are they intentionally allowing the pro-democrats to do so? To make them look bad and point fingers at them?

And the government needs to reflect too. They keep insisting on ramming though unpopular and poorly thought out bills and policies. No compromise is their name-of-the-game. In that kind of environment, what options does the pro-democrats have but resort to stalling tactics? If the government isn't willing to listen, they have no other choice, do they?

4 pro-democrats stripped of their post, if the pro-democrats carry out their threat, to have mass resignations in retaliation, there will be no opposition in legco and it will by default becomes a rubber stamp council:

So, this mass resignation has come at the right time, if not a little late. What happens next - I'm not sure. I do think that a government with no opposing voices, or at least a government which refuses to listen to opposing voices, is a government which is going to get even worse with its policy making.
